    Russia: Disney, Warner, Sony halt film releases

    Following the invasion of Ukraine, Warner Bros., Disney, and Sony have paused the release of films in Disney warner sony theaters.

    The announcements indicate that prominent films such as The Batman, Turning Red, and Morbius will no longer be released in the country as planned.

    They come at a time when countries all around the world are tightening their sanctions against Moscow.

    Global firms, including automakers and oil conglomerates, have severed economic connections with Disney warner sony in recent days.

    The Batman, a Warner Bros. blockbuster, was set to be released in Russia on Friday.

    Meanwhile, Disney postponed the Russian release of Pixar’s animated feature Turning Red.

    As Disney said, “given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the theatrical release of films in Disney warner sony.”

    Sony has also halted the release of Morbius, its Marvel adaptation, in the country.

    Other Social Media Restricts Russian Media

    Meanwhile, Netflix has stated that it will not comply with new Russian regulations requiring it to carry state-sponsored channels.

    “Given the current situation,” a Netflix spokesperson said, “we have no plans to add these channels to our service.”

    Twitter and Facebook have also taken steps to limit the presence of Russian state-backed news outlets on their platforms. They did it after being accused of spreading misinformation about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

    Meta, which owns Facebook, has announced that it will restrict access to state-owned media outlets RT and Sputnik in the European Union.

    Twitter also announced that it would add warnings to tweets that include links to Russian state-affiliated media.

    Yoel Roth, Twitter’s head of site integrity, stated that the platform receives more than 45,000 tweets per day that include links to these media outlets.

    Google has announced that it will block YouTube channels linked to Russian broadcasters RT and Sputnik across Europe. Large investors have also begun to withdraw from Russian investments or postpone new investments.
