For hours, players were not able to log in to the famous battle royale. The company was “investigating log-in, matchmaking, and other issues,” on Wednesday noon, according to Fortnite’s official Twitter account. Another tweet said that “game servers are currently offline while we investigate a solution to stability issues.”
Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, also experienced difficulties with its larger gaming library. In a tweet posted on Wednesday by the Epic Games Store Twitter account, users were informed that Epic was “investigating issues with downloading, installing and launching games in your Library.”
Fortnite asked players to restore the service via Twitter, assuring players to give “more details next week on what we’re doing to help you make up for the lost time.”
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has made heads turn in a very public war against the fees collected by big companies like Apple and Google when customers make in-app purchases. In 2020, Fortnite was unlisted from Apple’s App Store for letting users the ability to buy in-game currency directly from Epic, eroding Apple’s fees, and violating the company’s policy regarding in-app purchases. Epic Games then sued Apple and, in a glamourous court battle, the two companies feuded over Apple’s cut in in-app transactions and if the iPhone maker is a monopoly.
Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who looked over the case, in September took solace with Apple on almost all of the lawsuit’s claims, though she did agree with Epic at one point. Apple can not stop app developers from asking users about payment options outside of the App Store.
Epic asked to review the decision after it was announced, and Fortnite is yet to make a return to the App Store.
