Gia Skova is a Russian-born actor and producer who is currently based in the USA.
In a candid interview with UBO, Skova talks about films, cultures, hobbies, and more.
Q. Have you been to India and would you be interested in working for Bollywood sometime?
Gia Skova- I have been to many places, I think almost everywhere, but not India. I would love to visit.
Q. What led you to act?
Gia Skova– as a child, I was always headed towards the creative side of things, but destiny bought me to the modeling world.
My first cover was when I was 12, my recent cover was months ago….(laughs)
It is important for me to know where I am putting my voice. I would love to support that kind of company that makes other people heard. In my movie world which I built for myself, I own a production company. I do action movies as a director, producer, and actor.
Q. What are your hobbies?
Gia Skova – When you like to do something you always find the time. I take out time for my hobbies, such as reading about science, quantum physics to be precise. I enjoy talking to scientists, reading, and researching topics related to quantum physic. who has been involved in this deeply?
I’m a big fan of Nikola Tesla. I imagine myself living in the future, I would love to be on a time machine someday.
Q. How has your journey as an entrepreneur and an actress been so far?
Gia Skova – It’s been just wonderful. It’s not about where you are or what everyone tells you to do.
I believe it’s about being a cause, to direct your life. Every day you wake up, you have all day when you can choose yourself.
Every day I ask myself, Gia, what did you create today? How has the project been ongoing? So basically asking these questions to myself makes me fulfill my work.
The biggest challenge is to work on yourself and be better than two days ago.
Q. What inspired you to get into the production side of moviemaking?
Gia Skova – What is saw in the movie industry all these years,
So, I was 15 years old when I came to the US for acting, and in all these years what I saw in the movie industry, was that they spend a lot of time in production. For something which can be done very fast. Time on set is so expensive, everything from the actors to the location is paid on an hourly basis.
I realized I can come up with a better timeframe, where we could be productive and get things done faster.
So, in spite of everyone saying no to me, I just took a plunge and dived into the production of movies.
I ensured that everything was done on time with minimal resources. I applied my methods and was successful. My production debut was ‘The Serpent’ which was an action film, shot under $1m.
This amount is quite less according to Hollywood standards. Which came out to be a hit on the theatres and Amazon Prime!
Q. Any advice on creating a holistic work-life balance?
Gia Skova -If you’re passionate about a project, you begin to spend a lot of time in that. I always ensure I take out time for my friends and family.
But, however, when you are an artist it’s not so easy. You don’t want to put anything out of the cycle of action. I make sure I enjoy the process. Having fun in every minute of what I do, is what matters.
Q. What is the most challenging role you have played?
Gia Skova – I played the role of a CIA agent. I did major stunts myself, from gunfighting to riding a bike.
This was physically challenging as well, but being able to pull it off was an exhilarating experience. I was directing the movie too! So balancing both became a challenge.
Q. Advice to the younger generation?
Gia Skova -This would be my advice to the younger generation out there: Don’t shovel away from responsibilities, it is a lot of fun. Because The more responsible you become, the happier you get.
Q. What was the pandemic effect on your business?
Gia Skova – The movie industry has been affected a lot in these 2 years. With the things changing in the world and uncertainty looming over. I did not stop making my work. Although, there were pauses and unpredictability about the locations of my projects. I managed to complete some commercials and continue with some projects with limited resources, instead of just shutting down.
I believe in not giving up.
Q. If not an actor or a businesswoman, what would you be?
Gia Skova – Coming from a medicine family background. I think it’s in my blood, I would be probably researching alternative medicines. I just have a knack to understand and find things about medicine. My travels have given me opportunities with different people who have inspired me to take the healthy, exercise route.
Rather than just relying on doctors for medicines.
Q. Upcoming projects?
Gia Skova – I am working on a project cinderella. An action-based version of mine. Which is in the works now. There’s another action project on a girl with superpowers.
