End Of WFH: How IT Companies Preparing Themselves?

End of WFH: As some IT organizations prepare to summon their employees back to offices, the fall in Covid-19 cases could signal the end of the work-from-home model. However, as a bit of consolation to staff, many businesses will continue to use a hybrid approach.

According to a survey done by the recruitment and employment agency CIEL HR Services, employees are even willing to quit the job if that option is removed. At least six of the ten responders were considering resigning rather than returning to work.

The survey results, which were shared with the Economic Times, also revealed that the same number of respondents (from IT, outsourcing, tech startups, consulting, BFSI, and business-enabling functions across all sectors) are willing to turn down a higher-paying job that requires them to come to work.

Forty percent of the 620 enterprises surveyed work entirely from home, while 26% operate in a hybrid fashion. Employees at the remaining companies work from their offices.

Let’s look at India’s top IT companies’ working models.

    The working model of Infosys

In this vein, IT behemoth Infosys is considering a “phased return to the office,” encouraging staff to just come into the office for a day or two per week. According to Richard Lobo, Executive Vice President and Head of HR at Infosys, 40-50 percent of employees are expected to work from home on any given day.

Currently, 96% of Infosys’ employees work from their homes. “To begin, we’re encouraging our managers and leaders to come into the office for a day or two per week.” We also encourage team meetings, huddles, and other workplace activities,” Lobo said, according to the Economic Times.

The working model of Tech Mahindra

Starting in April, Tech Mahindra has requested workers to come to work two days each week.

    HCL Technologies’ work model

On the other hand, HCL will continue to operate in a hybrid manner. The third-largest software services company is still being monitored.

A company spokesperson stated, “At HCL, one of our top priorities is the safety and well-being of our employees and their families. We also remain deeply committed to maintaining our business normalcy thereby ensuring uninterrupted services to our clients. At present we are monitoring the situation and continue to operate in a hybrid model.”

    TCS work ethic

Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest software services provider, announced a comprehensive remote working strategy last month. The internal emails suggest TCS wants individuals to work from home in their “depute” locales. While also expecting remote working to continue.

“An important part of the journey to the 25/25 model is bringing people back to physical offices. And gradually transition into the hybrid work model,” Milind Lakkad, TCS’s CHRO, stated.

    Wipro’s working model

Wipro had already declared that, from March 3, it would bring back its senior staff to the office. It will be for two days a week.
